Hannibal’s ‘Tome-wan’ was directed by Michael Rymer. Writers were Chris Brancato, Bryan Fuller and Scott Nimerfro.
Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) is lost in the darkness. His fantasies about killing Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) are frequent day dreams and have escalated in violence. All are highly creative with aesthetics his victim would appreciate.
Will upped the ante. He told Mason Verger (Michael Pitt) he should kill Hannibal. He’s been manipulating all of them. Margot Verger (Katharine Isabelle) would not have seduced and gotten by pregnant by Will if not for their shared psychiatrist. If not for Hannibal Will wouldn’t have met her. He’s the cause of their misery.
Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) shows he’s a good fisherman. He found Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier (Gillian Anderson). She’s given immunity in exchange for her testimony. She admits to being under Hannibal’s influence. She even went so far as to kill the patient that attacked her. She warns Will Hannibal will push him to kill someone. And he’ll believe it’s his only option out of the situation.
Mason takes Will up on his suggestion. Hannibal will be his first sacrifice to the pigs. He makes sure Will has a front row seat. But does Will really want him dead? Yes, he’s dreamed about it. Would killing Hannibal satisfy his need for revenge? Or imprisonment for the rest of his life? Hannibal shows no fear in the presence of his enemies. He seemed bored actually.
The good: Flower crowns for cast and crew making Fannibal wishes for murder husbands come true. Bedelia’s back! She repeatedly warns Will and Jack. They’ll fall into a trap no matter where they turn. Will they take her warnings into consideration?
Love how Winston is like, “DADDY! They’re freaking me out! You have no idea what’s going on inside!” Hannibal speaking Italian. What other languages does he speak?
Will Margot repay her brother’s kindness? Love her necklace resembling a neck brace. Hannibal compares himself and Will to Achilles and Patroclus. Fannibal minds went straight to the gutter. And stayed there upon hearing, “A pleasure we can share.” How far will they push the envelope?
Best lines: Free range rude. They tell me you were hard to find. That was the idea. Hannibal can get lost in self-congratulation at his own exquisite taste and cunning. Whimsy. That is how he will be caught. You don’t want me to have anything in my life that’s not you. You need to write me a prescription for this Doctor.
The bad: Mason sat at Hannibal’s desk and put his feet up. Then he did the unthinkable. He stabbed his therapy chair. Which is the exact moment Hannibal thought, “I’d skin him alive if it wasn’t for the terms of the Verger will”. The furry children will need years of therapy and antipsychotics. Is Will Hannibal’s or Jack’s man because he isn’t sure?
The ugly: What Mason did to Margot. Will asked Hannibal to show Jack his true identity. What could possibly go wrong?
