Hannibal’s ‘Yakimono’ was directed by Michael Rymer. Writers were Steve Lightfoot and Bryan Fuller.

Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) is a master illusionist. He puts on a dazzling show for the FBI and Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) before closing with his best trick.

He opens with Tree Man. City councilor Sheldon Isley was unforgivably rude. He’s responsible for a deal that paved over a habitat for rare songbirds. His body is grafted to a living tree. Roots weaved in and out of the flesh. Lungs the only organs remaining in the thoracic cavity.

Void was filled with poisonous flowers. The presentation was perfect as always and disturbingly beautiful. Blooming white and pink flowering tree planted in the offending parking lot. Isley’s water filled lungs served to feed it.

Jimmy Price (Scott Thompson) and Brian Zeller (Aaron Abrams) minus Dr. Beverly Katz (Hettienne Park) decipher the evidence. The water is from a specific fifty mile radius. Another clue is Madrona bark. It’s in one location within those parameters.

Jack arrives at an abandoned farmhouse and finds gold. The Ripper’s slaughterhouse has leftovers from two recent kills and a jaw dropper. FBI trainee Miriam Lass (Anna Chlumsky) is alive. The material found with Dr. Gideon’s dead infirmary guard was added flourish. Collectively they prove Will Graham’s (Hugh Dancy) innocence.

It’s a huge win for Attorney Leonard Brauer (Shawn Doyle). Prosecutor Marion Vega (Maria del Mar) is forced to drop all charges. Will is released from Baltimore State Hospital. Kade Purnell (Cynthia Nixon) can’t be reached for comment.

Will tells Dr. Frederick Chilton (Raúl Esparza) confession is good for the soul. Fear is not a good color on Chilton. Instead of telling the truth, he tries to spin how invaluable he is to the ongoing investigation.

Dr. Alana Bloom (Caroline Dhavernas) spends her time defending Hannibal and admonishing Will with equal fervor. Jack is disappointed Miriam can’t id the Ripper. But releasing the guru’s protégés is nothing more than misdirection. Hannibal brings down the house with his last act.

The good: Take out menu rolodex. Jack admitting he gave up on his bloodhounds Miriam and Will. Will’s reunion with his furry children. Applesauce. Love Snakey’s house. The sax of doom. Miriam and Will together and discussing the Ripper. Who needs a security system when you’re a cannibal. These rude are fresh meals delivered right to your door.

Best lines: I’m suggesting you convince Jack Crawford however you can. Like your life depends on it. You can’t trust any of this to be what it seems. Are you going to try to hurt Hannibal again? Is he safe? From me or for you? One moment, please. You cannot see it and you will not see it until it is too late.

The bad: Alana trusts Hannibal and may be falling in love with him.

The ugly: Miriam in therapy the rest of her life to undo Hannibal’s programing, deal with her psychological trauma and finding a way to cope with the world around her.
