Hannibal’s ‘Hassun’ was directed by Peter Medak. Writers were Jason Grote and Steve Lightfoot.

Day one of Will Graham’s (Hugh Dancy) trial. Prosecutor Marion Vega (Maria del Mar) goes for the jugular. Graham is an intelligent psychopath. He excelled at his job as Special Investigator because he’s a murderer.

Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) is having a crisis. Should he follow the FBI playbook and bury Will? Or tell the truth and end his career in the process? Kade Purnell (Cynthia Nixon) makes it very clear how the bigwigs want this to play out. Will Graham is an embarrassment for the bureau. The sooner he’s done the better. Damage control could take years restoring the public’s confidence.

Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) is in court listening to testimony. Freddie Lounds (Lara Jean Chorostecki) and Dr. Frederick Chilton (Raúl Esparza) do their best to destroy Graham. Defense Attorney Leonard Brauer (Shawn Doyle) feels Dr. Alana Bloom (Caroline Dhavernas) will do more harm than good.

A severed ear makes an unwelcomed appearance. But it casts doubt on the case. More evidence soon presents itself. Collectively they point to the real killer still being out there or a copycat doing their best to exonerate Graham.

Adrenaline and caffeine fueled Jimmy Price (Scott Thompson), Dr. Beverly Katz (Hettienne Park) and Brian Zeller (Aaron Abrams) relay details to their boss. Although Jack hates to admit it, this is great news. Someone else committed the crimes Will is accused of.

The good: Raise your hand if your fannibal mind was in the gutter during the dressing segment. Hannibal’s smirk about Will being the smartest person in the courtroom. Slideshow displaying a faction of Hannibal’s greatest hits. How hard was it for him not to smile? After they were praising his work. The ones they know about anyway.

Best lines: I think I opened your mail. Unconsciousness in a pretty package that I can sell. You are smitten with the accused, Miss Bloom. And Ms. Vega will smell it on you like you stepped in young adult and tracked it into the courtroom.

Have you ever since people giddy during a forensic exam? We have daddy to ourselves again. Yay! The exact moment you knew the judge made a bad call. Will asks Hannibal how far would he go to help him. He doesn’t know there’s a love letter in his future. Notice how Will goes to his happy place every time Chilton speaks. Snakey unknowingly has insight into Hannibal.

The bad: The attention seeking troublemaker Lounds is back. Nice hat. Liar! Throwing Will under the bus to sell her upcoming Minnesota Shrike novel. Now that Abigail is gone, she won’t have to share the profits. Only six lawsuits?

The unbearably smug Chilton peacocking on the stand. How dare his prize patient refuse to make him famous? He’ll show him who’s boss. Guilty or innocent, Graham is in his house until whenever. Only a matter of time before Lounds and Chilton team up.

The ugly: Bella’s end stage.
