Hannibal’s ‘Releves’ was directed Michael Rymer. Writers were Chris Brancato and Bryan Fuller.
Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and Georgia Madchen (Ellen Muth) have gotten quite chummy of late. They’re both night owls and he visits her on a regular basis. He might be the only person she sees outside of hospital staff. It’s not clear if the FBI makes the rounds also. But they’re keeping tabs on her.
Miss Madchen has regained a healthy normal appearance due to wound oxygen therapy inside a hyperbaric chamber. She says despite all the tests and various treatment doctors won’t find what’s wrong with him. He replies the next stage for her is electroconvulsive therapy. Which everyone hopes will restore her memory. But she doesn’t want to remember killing her best friend.
Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) continues Will’s informal sessions inside his hospital suite. He learns Miss Madchen may soon recall the events surrounding Dr. Sutcliffe’s (John Benjamin Hickey) death. She dies in a horrible accident.
Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) later admonishes Will. He should’ve known not to befriend a murder suspect. Jimmy Price (Scott Thompson) and Brian Zeller (Aaron Abrams) are down one. Dr. Beverly Katz (Hettienne Park) is in jury duty.
Freddie Lounds (Lara Jean Chorostecki) has bounced back from her kidnapping. It’s full steam ahead laying the groundwork for Abigail Hobbs’ (Kacey Rohl) true crime novel. A chapter will be devoted to each Minnesota Shrike victim. Lounds preferred working title has already been taken.
Lounds may also think Miss Hobbs is killer herself. But telling the truth isn’t important. Raking in cash is her goal.
Jack speaks to both Hannibal and Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier (Gillian Anderson). The first revolves around Will connecting previously unrelated crimes to the Shrike’s copycat. Someone he’s certain is not Nicholas Boyle (Mark Rendall). The not exactly similar murders should’ve stopped with his death.
The second is about Hannibal. He wants insight into Dr. Lector’s relationship with Graham. Jack feels he knows more than what his telling. He hopes Hannibal told his therapist. She’s deliberately vague.
The next morning Jack orders someone to retrieve Beverly from court. He needs all hands on deck. He wants cadets brought in to assist with research. The team will reexamine everything on the copycat.
Refreshing the taskforce bares fruit. They find evidence Garrett Jacob Hobbs (Vladimir Cubrt) wasn’t traveling alone. Abigail had orientation seminars at the same colleges as the other young ladies. Plus they have copies of hotel, train and dinner receipts for two. She was the lure for his innocent prey.
The good: No people were harmed in the making of Hannibal’s chicken soup. Graham’s mind is clear. He’s on the verge of a figuring out the copycat’s identity. He or she is someone attached to the FBI. They know the cases and have knowledge of forensics. The walls are closing in. How will Lecter solve that problem?
The bad: Hannibal’s method of helping Will understand who he is.
The ugly: Hannibal’s preferred method of relieving stress.
