OUAT’s ‘The Evil Queen’ was directed by Gwyneth Horder-Payton. Writers were Christine Boylan and Jane Espenson.

In pre-curse FTL, The Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla) decides to go undercover. She summons Rumple (Robert Carlyle). She wants to learn the shape shift spell he taught Cora. She’s disappointed when it tells her that will take months. He offers to put it on her.

Rumple tells her to abandon her ally King George (Alan Dale). He wants the man bankrupt. So the King will be dependent on him for aid. She agrees. He warns Regina she won’t have her powers while cloaked. No problem. She thinks everything will be a piece of cake.

The Evil Queen gets her feelings hurt. People hate her with a passion. They wish Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) would stop running, take her out and rule in her stead. Regina doesn’t take bad news very well. All the peasants in a village are killed for helping Snow.

In SB, Greg (Ethan Embry) and Tamara (Sonequa Martin-Green) show Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) his murder attempt of Rumple failed. His enemy lives but if he still wants revenge. They offer him a way to do it if he helps them with their plans. He’s willing to do anything to skin his crocodile.

Emma’s (Jennifer Morrison) suspicions about Tamara bare no concrete evidence. But she does have Henry (Jared S. Gilmore). He wants the rents together.

The good: Regina was real psychopath in this one. It was safer to aim her wraith at Snow than Cora whom she feared, was vastly a more powerful mage and completely unpredictable. She was probably obsessed with the idea Cora would escape her exile and take revenge. Which was why kept building her magical arsenal. She had to surpass Mom if she wanted to survive the showdown.

Rumple kept breaking her down psychologically. He isolated her by playing on her insecurities and populace’s fear. Manipulated her until all she had to live for was vengeance and enacting The Dark Curse.

Snow was willing to forgive everything Regina did if she truly repented. Snow understood her quite well. They could’ve bonded on a deep level. Been the family both wanted and needed in their lives. Think the only reason never killed Regina is she was terrified of becoming her.

The bad: When will Bae wake up and realize Tamara is using him? Besides the cheat sheet, did he tell her their weaknesses? How will he feel knowing he helped capture friends and family? Regina using magic on Henry. Emma being off her game and looking exactly like a crazy jealous baby momma.

The ugly: The true measure of the depth of Rumple’s insanity is his turning the innocent maiden Regina into The dreaded Evil Queen. The failsafe Regina created to kill everyone in StoryBrooke.
