OUAT’s ‘Child of the Moon’ was directed by Anthony Hemingway. Writers were Ian Goldberg and Andrew Chambliss.

In pre curse FTL, Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Red (Meghan Ory) are on the run from the Evil Queen’s (Lana Parrilla) guards. They split up during the full moon for Snow’s safety. Red runs into another werewolf. Who takes her to their den.

Their leader Anita (Annabeth Gish) turns out to be Red’s mother. Granny (Beverley Elliott) lied about her being dead. Red killed because she was never taught control. Snow stumbles upon the den. They want her dead because she’s human.

In SB, Grumpy (Lee Arenberg), Sleepy (Faustino Di Bauda), Sneezy (Gabe Khouth), Doc (David Paul Grove), Bashful (Mig Micario), Dopey (Jeffrey Kaiser) and Happy (Mike Coleman) work themselves to near exhaustion in the mines.

Grumpy refuses to take a break. He uses his anger to break through a wall. He falls into a chamber where the ceiling is covered with diamonds. Qapla! King George (Alan Dale) makes veiled threats to Charming (Josh Dallas). Now that he’s about to bring Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) back home.

Granny turns the dinner’s walk in freezer into a temporary cell for Ruby (Meghan Ory). It’s the first full moon since the curse broke. But Ruby escapes. Granny and Charming find her in the woods. She has no memories of what happened. Charming gets a routine service call. All three investigate and find a body ripped in half.

A distraught Ruby knows she’s the killer. King George accuses Charming of protecting Ruby. At the expense of others safety. He whips the town into a lynch mob. Belle (Emilie de Ravin) also tries to help. But she’s chained up in the library by her friend.

King George hacked up the murder victim and framed Ruby. The truth is discovered before more blood is spilled. The mad King burns Jefferson’s hat. So it can’t be restored by fairy dust. Henry (Jared Gilmore) has another nightmare. We see Aurora (Sarah Bolger) on the other side of the red room.

When he wakes up, there’s a burn on his arm. Rumple (Robert Carlyle) treats his injuries. He also provides detailed info on sleeping curses. He gives Henry an amulet which allows him to douse the flames.

The good: More backstory on Red and Snow’s friendship. Grumpy smiling. Love Granny’s sass. Rumple’s house call. Alan Dale. Annabeth Gish. Wolf hearing, who knew? Belle trying to talk sense into Ruby. Ruby finding her Mom.

The bad: King George! Dude, let it go and move on. We know you were distraught Ruby. But loudly confessing to murder in public isn’t a good idea. Did Ruby confront Granny about lying to her?

The ugly: Anita demanding that Red kill Snow then deciding to do it herself.
